Kibbutz Artzi Choir First Japan Tour

Kibbutz Artzi Choir visited Japan for the first time (9-14 Nov) to perform in 4 cities.

The choir consisting of 45 members toured in Kyoto, Ogaki, Atami and Tokyo filled concert halls with enthusiastic audience listening to songs by Israeli composers or Israeli popular songs.

The final event “Shalom Israel! 2009” held in Tokyo was followed by a warm reception by the Japan-Israel Friendship Association.

 

On this occasion, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for local organizers of each concert, staffs and volunteers for your great support for the concerts.


Prof. Ada Yonath awarded 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Prof. Yonath deciphered the structure and mechanism of action of ribosomes - the cell’s protein factories. Her findings are crucial for developing advanced antibiotics.

Gaza Facts website launched

The Operation against Hamas in Gaza: The Israeli Perspective

On December 27, 2008, after enduring an 8-year-long barrage of 12,000 rockets and having exhausted all other options, Israel launched a military operation against Hamas in Gaza.

 

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a special website (http://www.mfa.gov.il/GAZAFACTS) which provides factual information addressing the legal and political context of the conflict in Gaza, the issue of Gaza war crimes, the issue of human rights and the investigations into the Israeli military conduct during combat.

 

The website discusses various issues relating to the Israeli military operation undertaken by the Israel Defense Force (IDF), better known as "Operation Cast Lead" or "The Gaza Operation" in December 2008-January 2009.

BS-FUJI program reports Israeli Ambassador’s residence

Taishikan no Shokutaku (A Table of Embassy)” is a popular BS-TV program which reports an embassy in Tokyo every 2 weeks.

In the middle of May, crew of the program visited our embassy for shooting.

 

The program will be broadcasted on following dates:

On this program, Ms. Yumi Masuda, veteran announcer from Fuji-TV will try to cook Israeli traditional cuisine with Ambassador’s wife, and listen from Ambassador about Israeli food, tradition, culture, economy and technology.         


Embassy exhibited a booth at JATA Travel Fair 2009

The Embassy of Israel in Tokyo exhibited a booth to advertise tourism of Israel at "JATA Travel Fair", one of the biggest tourism festival in Asia, in which more than 100,000 people visit every year. (Venue: Tokyo Big Site)

 

In additon to the booth, a stage performance introducing Israeli foods and wines was perfomed by Mr. Don-Konishi, the former good will ambassador of Israel on the center stage. 


Foreign Ministry downgrades Israel’s alert level

Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has updated the alert level of its travel information to Israel.

 

The majority of Israel is now declared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  as “Travel with enough caution is advisable”.

 

The Embassy of Israel in Tokyo hopes that more Japanese tourists will visit and discover the unique character, landscape, culture and heritage of Israel.

Israel-Japan Scientific Research Cooperation

First call for Project Proposals 2009-2011     

 

Within the framework of the Israeli-Japanese MOU on scientific cooperation, Japan Science and Technology Agency (hereunder, JST) and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Israel (hereinunder referred to as “MOST”) provide financial support for joint research activities carried out by Israeli and Japanese researchers. Israel-Japan research teams are hereby invited to submit joint proposals on the topics detailed below.

Jerusalem Prize awarded to Mr. Haruki Murakami

Jerusalem International Book Fair 2009

The Jerusalem Prize was awarded to Japanese novelist, Mr. Haruki Murakami. Presentation ceremony was held on 15 Feb. at Jerusalem International Convention Center by Mayor Nir Barkat with presence of President Simon Peres.
